So this is with some of my Windows Remote Desktop License Servers, which I am using with Microsoft Azure Cloud Subscription. The issue I am facing is related to the license expiry. A fully functional and activated 2012 Remote Desktop Session Host server displayed the following message: 'THE REMOTE SESSION WAS DISCONNECTED BECAUSE THERE ARE NO REMOTE DESKTOP LICENSE SERVERS AVAILABLE TO PROVIDE A LICENSE.PLEASE CONTACT THE WINDOWS ADMINISTRATOR' This was a simple setup on one server with the: connection broker, Session Host and Licensing server with 2012 CAL’s installed. And though the licensing seems to be configured correctly, in server manager. But with the CAL(client access license), every user logging on to Server, gets the error message mentioned before. For every user, I need to update the CAL license again and again, and this issue occurs every 30 or 60 days. Kindly suggest something, and feel free to ask more details on this, if needed.

Hello Everyone, I spent a lot of time trying to find a resolution to this issue and could use some help. My Environment: I setup a 2012 Domain controller (DC01) and a 2012 RDS server (TS01). The domain controller has the RD Licensing Manager and RD Licensing Diagnoser installed.

The TS01 server has all the other RDS roles installed. I Installed the licenses on DC01 and they show 0 Available and 5 issues even though nobody has logged into the server I also pointed the TS01 server to the license server (DC01) but I get this error when adding it: The license server specified is not valid. Verify the server name and specify a valid server name before saving the settings. When I run the RD License Diagnoser from either server, I get the below error. Does anyone know what I'm missing? Is the 2012 server really looking for 2008 RDS CALs???

RDS in 2012 is not for the faint of heart, it's not straight forward and the documentation is lacking severely. I do not believe your 2008 RDS CAL's Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 will work for 2012 Remote Desktop Sessions. You will need Windows Server 2012 - Installed RDS Per User CAL. The Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 CALS, from my understanding, will only work for the VDI connections. To be honest, I have not had any luck installing all roles on one machine. But with that said, have you edited your deployment properties and specified the RD license server and selected per user mode?

You not only have to configure the license server on the overview page but in the deployment properties as well. Have you setup a RD Session host collection yet? I've been working on this for several weeks now, so I'm sure we can work it out. Hello Chef_Richer, Thanks for your response. Your right, setting up a 2012 Session based RDS server is a lot more difficult than 2008 was.

I installed all the roles for session based RDS services (except for the License manager) on my TS01 and installed the RD License manager on the Domain controller (DC01). I also edited the Deployment Properties to point the RD License to DC01.

Select the rebuilt the licensing server option and hit next.
